The Benoit Brothers

For the hunters out there. I had the pleasure of meeting up with Lanny Benoit. For those of you who do not know who the Benoit Brothers are? The family is famous around the world for there Whitetail Deer tracking skills. This family is the real deal from Vermont and when it comes to Tracking Whitetails in the Big woods, very few people can touch them. They hunt vast areas in places like Maine, New Hampshire, Quebec and Ontario.

Each year they consistently shoot 200 hundred pound + whitetails. Larry the Father, first put the Family on the Hunting Stage when a published article in Sports Afield Magazine came out. It was in the September, 1970 issue. The article was titled "Larry Benoit, Is he the best Deer Hunter in North America?" Since that day Larry and his sons have risen to fame in the Hunting world and circles. That fan base continues to grow today.

I was fortunate enough to meet up with Lanny Benoit. He is the eldest son of Larry and is the most pickiest out of the family when it comes to shooting big bucks. That's why his average buck size is so much higher. He is a true hunter in my opinion and has my respect when it comes to Deer Hunting. I'm his biggest fan and look forward to hunting with him in 2014. See photos below of me and Lanny. Did I mention I bought his Old Remington 270 pump!

I still cant believe I have his old gun to add to my collection of Benoit memorabilia. If that gun could talk.

Fall is coming boy's Steelhead Fishing and Deer Hunting there's nothing better.

Vladimir Putin Nets 43-Pound Pike

Russian President and noted absurd outdoor adventure enthusiast, Vladimir Putin, made headlines again this week when video surfaced of the political strongman catching an enormous pike fish.
Putin reportedly struggled with the allegedlly 43-pound pike for several minutes before reeling it in. Never one to pass up an opportunity for a dramatic display of power, Putin, resplendent in his camouflage jacket and hat, then planted the kiss of death upon the fish’s lips.

I can really relate to what Travis is saying. Only a die hard Steelhead angler can understand or feel what he means. Very nice piece for sure. Enjoy and stay thirsty my friends!

Summertime Blues

This post is titled Summertime Blues. I only say that because I'm totally Jones to pull on some chrome! While Salmon fishing on Sunday I did manage to catch a Steelhead. Well I wanna catch some more now of course. The weather this year is messing with everything. The Skamania run and even the Salmon Fishing.

The cooler temps, all the rain we have had. Its rained for 3 weeks now, really? I see this morning finally we are supposed to be rain free for the next week. I'm looking forward to this rain free period. I was beginning to think I lived in Seattle, Washington. Not knocking that state at all. They have awesome Steelhead Fishing.

I plan on hitting the water. I hope you will too and you should.

Beaver Attacks Cameraman

A Belarus fisherman who invaded a beaver's space paid for it with his life.
The 60-year-old man in Belarus was with friends on a recent fishing trip when he tried to approach the beaver to be photographed with it, according to the Daily Telegraph. The beaver attacked, biting him twice and severing an artery.
The friends of the unidentified man "tried to bandage him and find a doctor in a nearby village," a local wildlife official told the Telegraph.  But the man died from blood loss before help could arrive.
Other, nonfatal attacks have occurred recently in the U.S.
In September, the Washington Post told of an attack on an 83-year-old woman who went for a swim in a lake. Upon climbing out, she "twisted around to see what attacked her and noticed one thing: large, orange teeth."
The rabid beaver determinedly latched onto the woman's leg. She and a friend fought back, hitting it with a stick, their bare hands and, eventually, canoe paddles. The desperate struggle lasted 20 minutes, during which the beaver took a chunk out of the woman's calf, nearly severed her thumb and left puncture wounds on her arms and legs.
In August in upstate New York, a Boy Scout leader also was swimming when he was attacked. The beaver reportedly "attached itself" to the man's chest.  He eventually grabbed it by the jaw and struggled to shore. The young Scouts with him saw the rabid animal "was still dangerous" and threw rocks at it to kill it.
Beavers are herbivores with strong teeth and powerful jaws and can weigh up to 60 pounds, according to National Geographic. Sleek in the water, they move with an "ungainly waddle" on land. But, as the video of a separate, nonfatal beaver attack in Russia shows, they can put on the speed. (That disturbing video is below.)

Mixed Bag Weekend!

Well my son Jacob and I made it back safely from the Manistee. The weather was awesome and we could not have asked for more when it comes to the weather. Our first outing was on Saturday for some inland lake fishing.

I personally caught over 20 Small and Large Mouth Bass. Add  another 20 Rock bass and 10 Crappies. I caught over 50 fish in one day myself. Not bad, huh? We did end up with a limit of Crappies for the Skillet as well. All Bass were taken on top water lures in the morning and when we switched over to a mister twister jig for the crappies we still caught a little bit of everything on Twisters throughout the day.

In addition to fishing with Jacob, I also fished with my 2 friends Freddie B and Bob Ison who happen to be guides up there. So that always helps and I'm truly blessed to know them and have them as friends.

Sunday we spent the day chasing some Salmon out on Lake Michigan with Freddie B . We ended up with 2 fish. So NO skunk for sure. The Salmon fishing out of the Manistee has been really slow this year due to the cold weather. Normally this time of year we slay the Salmon. However, the day was spent with good friends and my son. Both fish were taken on Spoons.

I hope everyone had a wonderful Holiday no matter where you are. Get outside and enjoy life!

Kind Regards.

Happy 4th of July!

Going North for the Holiday Weekend. I'm going to spend some quality time with my son Jacob. The Skamania Steelhead are starting to show in the Manistee, but not in big numbers yet. We will be targeting Bass, Crappie and Salmon on Lake Michigan. Wish us luck and I will have a report on how we did when I return.

Have a Happy safe Holiday everyone.

Tight Lines.
