My Favorite Salmon Recipe

Now try this recipe:

1/3 cup of Soy Sauce, Brown Sugar, Water and Vegetable Oil (All equal Parts)

Coat fillets with Lemon Pepper, Garlic Powder, Salt and Pepper

Put it all in a Ziploc bag and let marinate for 2 hours.

Cook skin side up for 6-8 minutes per Side on the Grill.

You won’t be sorry.

Salmon Crazy!

I spent the weekend up in the Manistee with my buddies Fred and Matt and boy we got some Big fish this year! I took 2 alone over 20 plus pounds. Way to go Freddie B and Matt I appreciate all your help this weekend. Its a team effort on the salmon game for sure. We had a blast out there on Lake Michigan and I can't wait to do it again.

As Salmon season heats up and Steelhead on there way this Fall the combat fishing will begin. I came across this video and I like what this kid says. This is why I love the Winter Time.

 Mission of Film: 1) To show the fly fishing community what winter steelheading in the great lakes is all about. 2) To give hope to those who are currently fall combat fishing there... better times with less people are on the way! 3) Remind everyone that RWP did make a fly fishing short movie called "No Off-Season" which will be released on our website this December. Making the Film: I had a dream about this song and a sequence of some of our footage behind it. I woke up the next day and turned on my computer and put it together, more or less, just like my dream. This is my first go at editing a music video style project. Music : "When the Tigers Broke Free" by Pink Floyd.

Nice Salmon

My buddy Matt once again landed a nice Salmon while aboard Freddie B Charter Service out of Manistee. Fish weighed 27.55 on certified scales. By Michigan standards that's a nice fish!

That's the second Master Angler award for Matt this year. Way to go buddy!

Senate Bill Restores Funding to Great Lakes Programs

Programs to restore Lakes, halt sewage overflows receive boost, days after U.S. House budget recommends eviscerating programs

ANN ARBOR, MICH. (August 2, 2013) – The Healing Our Waters-Great Lakes Coalition is supporting a U.S. Senate funding bill, released yesterday, that restores funding to Great Lakes programs to pre-sequestration levels. The bill comes days after a House funding bill slashed core Great Lakes programs nearly 80 percent.

The draft funding bill from the Senate Interior-EPA subcommittee provides $300 million for the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative—a 5 percent increase over current levels, which is around $285 million. The $300 million is what the Coalition has asked for and what 11 members of the Senate Great Lakes Task Force requested in a letter to appropriators in the spring. The letter was signed by Sens. Carl Levin (D-Mich.), Mark Kirk (R-Ill.), Tammy Baldwin (D-Wis.), Sherrod Brown (D-Ohio), Joe Donnelly (D-Ind.), Dick Durbin (D-Ill.), Al Franken (D-Minn.), Kirsten Gillibrand (D-N.Y.), Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.) Charles Schumer (D-N.Y), and Debbie Stabenow (D-Mich.).

The Senate bill also provides $1.45 billion to help communities fix old sewers through the Clean Water State Revolving Loan Fund.  This is an increase of $69.68 million—or 5 percent—over current levels of $1.37 billion.

The bill from the U.S. Senate contrasts starkly with funding proposed by U.S. House leadership. The House bill slashed funding for the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative from $285 million to $60 million, a reduction of nearly 80 percent. The appropriations committee has since increased funding for the initiative to $210 million.

The House bill also cut more than 80 percent from the Clean Water State Revolving Loan Fund, from current levels of $1.37 billion to $250 million.

Reacting to the funding bill, Todd Ambs, campaign director for the Healing Our Waters-Great Lakes Coalition, said:

“We applaud the U.S. Senate for putting forward a bill that recognizes the importance of the Great Lakes and supports programs that will help keep restoration efforts on track. We urge the full Senate to support funding the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative at $300 million. Our restoration efforts are producing results, but there is more work to do. The re-emergence of toxic algal blooms, ongoing beach closings, state-wide fish consumption advisories, and legacy of toxic contamination are all reminders that the Great Lakes still desperately need our help. Cutting funding will only make problems worse and more expensive to solve.

“Over the last four years, Republicans and Democrats have united to restore the Great Lakes, and we remain committed to working with them to restore a resource that more than 30 million people depend on for their drinking water, jobs, health, and way of life.”

The Healing Our Waters-Great Lakes Coalition consists of 120 environmental, conservation, outdoor recreation organizations, zoos, aquariums and museums representing millions of people, whose common goal is to restore and protect the Great Lakes. This is a Reticulated Python, native to Asia , but probably someone's pet that they
let go in the swamps to fend for itself when it got too big and dangerous for them to handle.

Spey Fest

Get ready kids Spey Fest is coming! Will be a great time by all and make sure your there!

Spey Fest will be the 28th of September this year, (it is always the last Saturday in September), at Henning Park in Newaygo.

Presentations by:

Rick Whorwood, THCI from Ontario with a great program comparing the different styles of Spey Casting.

Gary Kalinka, Gary will focus on Long Belly, traditional casts, using 15'+ rods and 70'+ heads.

Pete Humphreys, will demonstrate fishing with Scandinavian shooting heads.

Kevin Feenstra, will speak on what he knows.....FISHING with two handed rods.

Rick Kustich, author of "Advanced Fly Fishing for Great Lakes Steelhead", will speak on Great Lakes Steelhead with two handed rods.

Manufacturers reps from:  Airflo, Rio, Scientific Anglers, Sage, Scott, Echo, Redington, .........all the toys will be there!

The Pig will be served around Noon.

The hours will be 9am-4pm or so.

The only charge is the Park Entrance, $5+ or -.

I look forward to seeing to seeing everyone there!
